Loewe is celebrating its final collaborative capsule with Studio Ghibli, this time centered around Howl’s Moving Castle, with a takeover of Selfridges in London. Loewe is taking residence from February 1st until February 25th with an exclusive pre-launch of the capsule collection in the Corner Shop, a unique culinary experience, and a Studio Ghibli exhibition space.
While the retail pop-up occupies Selfridges’ Corner Shop, the store’s Dolly Cafe will be taken over by Calcifer’s Kitchen: a unique culinary experience serving a menu of dishes inspired by scenes and characters from the film. To bring Calcifer’s Kitchen to life, Loewe has commissioned French culinary and events studio Balbosté. Offering a playful take on the traditional English afternoon tea, dishes include meadow-inspired sandwiches, vermicelli broomsticks, macarons, cakes, cloud terrines, and a twist on traditional Alsatian specialties in a nod to the film’s setting in Colmar, Alsace. Complementing the food are cocktails provided by Le Syndicat and teas by Conservatoire des Hémisphère, with handcrafted ceramic trays by Daphne Leon and handcrafted tableware in the shape of Sophie’s iconic hat by Laurette Broll.
Meanwhile, Selfridges’ exhibition space has been transformed into the Cloud Room, where visitors can discover a selection of the film’s background art by Studio Ghibli, go behind the scenes of the campaign, explore the making of the collection’s Moving Castle bag, and catch screenings of the film.
