Louboutin Takes his Craftsmanship Back to Meildes

Louboutin’s world, expanded: two new villas add another layer of luxury

Two years after debuting his boutique hotel Vermelho in the quiet coastal town of Melides, Christian Louboutin is back, this time, offering a deeper glimpse into his private world. The designer has opened the doors to two new properties, La Salvada and La Maison des Bateaux, a pair of design-forward luxury villas now available for temporary rental.

These aren’t your typical hospitality expansions. Originally intended as personal projects, the villas weren’t designed with marketing in mind, making their opening feel more like an invitation than a launch. Designed with Louboutin’s signature flair and dedication to quality, the villas draw from North African aesthetics and the bold, emotive architecture of Luis Barragán, creating immersive spaces that are both expressive and intimate. La Salvada offers stunning ocean views, a swimming pool, and room to roam between suites. La Maison des Bateaux, set further back near the rice fields, embraces a more rustic, countryside-home feel.

“These two villas are private design and decoration projects, which initially had no commercial purpose,” says Vermelho general manager Vera Gonçalves. Louboutin’s latest venture reads less like a business move and more like a passion project. One might ask what stilettos and seaside villas have in common, and the answer would be: nothing at all. But that’s exactly the point. It’s the attention to detail, obsession with beauty, and uncompromising craftsmanship that ties it all together, seamlessly extending the Louboutin universe beyond shoes.

In a time when luxury often leans toward excess, there’s something refreshing about this kind of quiet opulence. Louboutin isn’t chasing trends or building in the obvious places. Settling in Portugal over Paris, this move is somewhat unexpected, making it all the more special. Rather than accompanying the villa with a flagship store or influencer filled brand trip, the stay is filled with a luxurious essence in the air. A feeling that cannot be trademarked or monetized, simply appreciated for its elegance and charm.

This is Louboutin’s world, and now, for just a moment, you can stay in it.
