Louis Vuitton finds exciting new expressions of style among familiar surroundings with its Fall 2023 Women’s campaign. Shot by photographer David Sims, the campaign is led by superstar actress Emma Stone, who is joined by a squad of the brand’s go-to muses.

The campaign follows these excellently dressed women through the streets of Paris, framing their forward motion against the city’s iconic facades, gardens, and courtyards. The accompanying short film furthers the sense of motion, while the soundtrack choice of New Order’s “Ceremony” (a song that literally everyone loves) lends emotional shading.

Much has been said recently about the “quiet luxury” trend, and there are a few images here the styling choices of which, with their classic tailoring and neutral color schemes, could be said to play into the ostensible trend. But these nods to sober sophistication are seamlessly woven through with Nicolas Ghesquière’s avant-garde touches, evincing the house’s practice of synthesizing its connection to the history of French style with an embrace of visionary new design ideas.

This balance is effectively communicated by the shape of the unique silhouettes and their balance of rigidity and volume against the familiar stone of Paris, creating both harmony and a directional sense of contrast. The handbags, similarly, combine the house’s familiar must-have shapes with new explorations of color and texture, and take on a new feeling of energy when held by a hand clad in the season’s bright and punchy moto glove.

Balancing the timeless elegance of Paris with a contemporary attitude – and boosting it with a well-chosen celebrity cast member – the campaign brightly demonstrates that, while Louis Vuitton may know how to look back, it’s always moving forward.
