Many of Milan’s biggest and more established names took this season to look to their own archives and offer strong though somewhat safe interpretations of established Italian elegance – but the younger and upcoming brands and designers that have earned a spot in our standout category have been quietly working to push fashion forward and offer a range of exciting new perspectives.
While their letter-heavy names might make them prone to mixups, MSGM and GCDS both served up distinct collections that saw them move past their respective streetwear origins and into new territory characterized by unique senses for materiality and tailoring.
Daniel Del Core continued to prove he’s the closest thing to a modern McQueen with a hauntingly beautiful collection that ruminated on what can bloom from the ashes of catastrophic geological events and climate crises.
While Sunnei has already made a name for itself with inventive and often interactive runway shows, the playfully cool brand outdid itself this time with a show where its team of designers, assistants, web managers, and more took stage dives and crowd-surfed across the audience while modeling a collection that was worthy of such an outstandingly unique format.
