Miss Dior Returns to the Spotlight with Shanghai Exhibition

“Stories of a Miss” takes guests on a journey through Miss Dior’s 78 year long relationship with art and fashion

Dior will present a new exhibition titled “Stories of a Miss” in Shanghai this September. Running from September 13 through October 8 at the Fosun Art Foundation, the exhibit will spotlight the house’s hallmark fragrance, Miss Dior.

The most recent iteration of the Miss Dior exhibition was held at Tokyo’s Roppongi Museum in June 2024. First launched in 1947, Miss Dior has long been a staple in the fragrance world, but only began making appearances in the art exhibition space in 2013. This Shanghai edition not only seeks to reawaken the spirit, emotion, and creativity embodied by Miss Dior, but also to stand as a testament to Dior’s longstanding relationship with China.

The exhibition opens with an homage to the 1952 Bobby bottle: a grand statue in the shape of the founder’s beloved dog welcomes guests into the space. The journey unfolds across several rooms, immersing visitors in the universe of Miss Dior and the rich array of art forms it embraces. Designed by OMA New York, the experience spans illustration, sculpture, painting, and limited-edition presentation cases, all working in harmony to merge the worlds of art and fashion.

Threaded together by the fragrance’s signature ribbon, the rooms feature illustrations and watercolors by René Gruau and Mats Gustafson, alongside works from six Chinese artists: Ai Jing, Chen Ke, Liang Yanwei, Liu Shiyuan, Zhou Li, and Daishi Luo. The exhibition also includes pieces by Japanese artist Haruka Kojin, French sculptor Ingrid Donat, Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis, and American icon Judy Chicago. These artists will continue the story of Miss Dior through the face of the fragrance, Natalie Portman. The couture gowns worn by Portman root the fragrance in the world of haute couture.

Now 78 years since its creation, Miss Dior’s story will continue in Shanghai this September.
