A Summer Breeze in Sport-Influenced Sartorialism
Designer Steve Hsieh’s latest spring collection at Paris Fashion Week took his line, rooted in basketball, to new sartorial heights. The Taiwanese designer merged his family’s fishing background with innovative tailoring techniques to create a collection that showcased new shapes and materials.
The collection featured calming neutral tones with hints of sun-bleached blues and pink, creating an earthy and airy vibe. Hsieh incorporated new materials like linen blends, pineapple leaf-fiber, and thick cotton poplin, adding richness to the pieces.
Collaboration pieces with NBA player Jaylen Brown’s line 7uice showcased smart updates on the varsity jacket, with small details like pearl beading and chess-inspired checkerboard patterns. Blazers embraced Eastern elements, while traditional puffer jackets were reimagined in fresh proportions.
Seafaring references were subtly incorporated into the collection through buckle details, sail stitching, and netting patterns. Hsieh also debuted handbags on the runway as part of his plan to expand into accessories lines.
