Review of Noah Fall 2023 Ad Campaign by Art Director Tyler Wray and Photographer Samuel Bradley
Avast, me hearties! Noah sets sail for an urban swashbuckling adventure with its new Fall 2023 campaign, shot by photographer Samuel Bradley with art direction from Tyler Wray.
While the collection itself combines an 80s punk and new wave aesthetic with softly volumized fall staples, the campaign infuses this spirit with a swashbuckling energy. Our youthful and eclectic protagonists are a crew of urban pirates, but their high seas are the streets of New York City; they pull into harbor in public fountains and make waves as they skateboard down crosswalks.
I didn’t realize it before, but I’ve been trying to honor the individuals in my life that have inspired me by being themselves. People who were pioneers in the world of music; from punk to new wave to hip hop artists all doing their own thing; to skateboarders, painters, and writers. But most of all, the ‘as of yet’ unknown individuals in every town and city across the globe, who don’t quite fit in today, but we all know are really just ahead of the rest of us. Thank you to all of the outcasts and pirates.”
– Brendon Babenzien, Noah Creative Director
There are a lot of elevated streetwear brands out there, and without a clear sense of story and perspective, it can be easy to get lost in the mix. With this campaign, Noah deftly sets itself apart by bringing together equal parts fantasy and realism and infusing some much needed playfulness into a dynamic urban environment. Punk, hip hop, and new wave – some of streetwear’s biggest touchstones – have always been about intellectual outcasts charting their own path, and this campaign forms an inspiring ode to that spirit of adventure.
