Nur Abbas, a Nike and Louis Vuitton veteran, has been appointed as Yeezy’s new Head of Design.
Kanye West has recruited former Nike designer Nur Abbas as the head of design for Yeezy. Abbas will be in charge of the Yeezy brand’s special projects, such as Adidas, Gap, and the Stem Player. It’s a newly created position for the company, and Abbas will be working alongside “Ye” on his ongoing collaborations and expanding the Yeezy brand. Abbas has previously held positions at Louis Vuitton, Uniqlo, Gucci, Griffin Studio and Maison Margiela.
West has been championing the brand’s collaborations. He first debuted the first sneaker collaboration with Adidas in 2015 and launched a Yeezy Gap Perfect Hoodie collection in 2020. The company announced a partnership with Balenciaga for his Gap collection earlier this year.
While the company has continued its growing success, West’s recent erratic behavior could jeopardize the brand’s value and reputation. West was recently asked not to perform at the 2022 Grammy Awards due to his concerning online behavior a few days after he was banned from Instagram for 24 hours for hurling a racial slur at comedian Trevor Noah. This has not let up the brand’s enthusiasm so far, as a U-Haul truck carrying $250,000 of Yeezy sneakers has recently been stolen and since recovered.
