While Paris’ tentpole brands were grappling with how to reconcile a historical legacy and contemporary identity (with some mixed results), the young and independent brands that lead our Standout category for Fall 2024 were showing fashion a way – in fact, many ways – forward.
Cult favorites Ottolinger and Marine Serre both delivered collections that again confirmed just how strong and recognizable of a brand identity and design vision they each have built for themselves.
Though Victoria Beckham’s identity as a designer continues to be elusive, she did present one strong collection.
After its first runway show in Seoul last July (though the brand has been around since 1993), South Korean brand Time burst onto the Paris scene with a collection that brought a subtly imaginative spirit to 90s-influenced sophisticated wardrobe staples, heralding what could shape up to be a very successful expansion into the European market.
Jun Takahashi’s Undercover leads the pack with a collection that exploded the boundaries of garment categories, fabric possibilities, and what can be worn when and where, showing us that originality and wearability can coexist, that the avant-garde can feel effortless, and that the greatest luxury in fashion is to not be confined by luxury.
Here are The Impression’s picks for the Top 10 Standout runway shows of the Fall 2024 season in Paris as selected by our editor-in-chief, Kenneth Richard.
