The Spring 2020 Menswear runaway shows proved that men can, in fact, wear bright and bold pastel colors. Pastels allude to the spring months, Easter, femininity, and have a strong seed in history. Pastel painting was a popular medium with the rise of Baroque and Rococo styles in the 17th and 18th centuries. The colors that were applied in art were applied in fashion as well. Pastels were also popular in the Roaring Twenties, as the severity of World War I was responded to with lighter tones in dress. Designer brands from Amiri, to Balmain, to Thom Browne, and Louis Vuitton are too embracing pastel colors in their spring 2020 collections. These pastels have made the fashion softer, more delicate, and all the more inviting.
