'Season Five' Ad Campaign

Review of Paul Andrew ‘Season Five’ Ad Campaign by Photographer Mark Kean with model Alek Wek

Paul Andrew crafts a joyful visual world of surreal style with the new campaign for his Season Five collection, captured by photographer Mark Kean.

The campaign forms another example of Andrews’ unique practice of creative dialogue with artists from other disciplines. For this new chapter, he’s enlisted glass artist Jochen Holz, who created a custom series of pieces, each hand-blown and finished in London in a range of textures and surreal shapes, and that echo the synthesis of artisanal rigor and imagination of the collection.

Aptly leaning into this spirit of chic surrealism, Kean’s imagery collages the expressive footwear styles alongside Holz’ glass sculptures in a minimal yet vibrant and angular visual world. Along with the glass pieces, avant-garde furniture, as well as more unexpected objects and graphic elements, push the almost dadaist feeling of the compositions.

Jodie Barnes’ styling work – which features pieces from the Kostas Murkudis archive – also works as a key ingredient in supporting the playful, pop-art atmosphere. Exploring elements of translucency and shimmer, she uses sheer fabrics in conversation with shining textural details to create a richly expressive material palette, which model Alek Wek brings beautifully to life with bold energy and poise.

Paul Andrew’s campaigns always impress us as uniquely conceived and beautifully executed, and this is in large part to his vision as a creative director. But he also understands the power of collaboration, and campaigns like this one speak to the magic that can happen by bringing distinct creative visions and practices together.
