Prada Hosts Prada Mode Event in Abu Dhabi

The Eleventh Edition of Prada’s Cultural Event Series Continued the Brand’s Collaboration with Theaster Gates

On February 11 and 12, 2025, Prada unveiled the eleventh edition of its Prada Mode cultural initiative in Abu Dhabi’s MiZa neighborhood at Mina Zayed. This edition marked the third collaboration between Prada and multidisciplinary artist Theaster Gates. The event explored themes of minimalism and analogue processes in an era dominated by technology and AI, showcasing dualities rooted in historic craftsmanship and sacred immediacy.

The event transformed the venue through architectural innovation, introducing a circular structure within a square layout, which divided the space into distinct experiential realms. The cultural programming, curated by Myrna Ayad, highlighted local and regional artists, with a focus on the contributions of Arab women through a series of talks and performances.

The first day of Prada Mode Abu Dhabi kicked off with a private dinner honoring Theaster Gates, followed by an opening party. Discussions included “Honoring Tradition, Celebrating Modernity,” moderated by Ayad, featuring visual artists Zara Mahmood, Moza Almatrooshi, and designer Omar Al Gurg. They examined how modern creators are revitalizing traditional symbols and stories. Another discussion, “We Built This City,” featured Gates alongside visual artist Vikram Divecha and botanical curator Zain Masud, delving into urban development and its challenges.

Attendees participated in an Al-Sadu weaving workshop led by Awatef Almesmari, exploring the UNESCO-recognized textile tradition. The day concluded with performances by violinist Nancy Mounir, DJ Yas Meen Selectress, and a live set by Seera and DJ Nooriyah.

The following day continued with similar vigor, featuring discussions like “The Power of the Matriarch” and “The Grace of Bodily Gestures,” exploring the influence of the body in artistic expression and cultural roles of matriarchs in the Arab world and Asia. The Al-Sadu workshop continued, alongside performances by poet Afra Atiq and musicians Noura Mint Seymali and Aïta Mon Amour, with the evening closing on a performance by Nour and DJ Deena Abdelwahed.

Prada Mode Abu Dhabi will be open to the public on February 13 and 14, 2025.
