Sean MacCormac Lands World-First Bay Bridge Cable Ride with Linea Rossa and Luna Rossa Tech
In a feat that pushed the boundaries of both athleticism and design innovation, Prada Linea Rossa has partnered with Red Bull and skysurfing legend Sean MacCormac to make history. On a clear day above San Francisco Bay, MacCormac leapt from a helicopter at 1,676.4 meters and became the first person ever to skysurf onto the suspension cables of the iconic Bay Bridge—sliding along them for several breathtaking seconds before spiraling into a landing on a floating platform below.

The achievement—dubbed “Bridge Rider”—is the result of months of meticulous planning, training, and the development of highly specialized gear. At the heart of it all was a custom-engineered board, developed in collaboration between Prada Linea Rossa and the Luna Rossa sailing team, whose America’s Cup expertise helped fine-tune every aerodynamic element. The board featured a honeycomb core with carbon fiber layering for stability and control in freefall, and a polyethylene base tough enough to withstand direct contact with steel cables—all without any adhesive elements. Instead, its painted graphics doubled as structural finishes, allowing for maximum glide and precision.

“This project brings a dream to life,” said MacCormac, a Red Bull athlete and two-time X Games medalist. “In my profession, I get to see the world’s most incredible architecture from the sky, and I’ve long imagined what might be possible. To actually slide along the Bay Bridge cables felt like turning one of those daydreams into reality.”
Supporting MacCormac throughout the challenge, Prada Linea Rossa also supplied advanced performance garments designed to withstand both high-speed wind forces and sudden thermal shifts during descent. The apparel fused textile innovation with a minimalist, aerodynamic silhouette, continuing Prada’s tradition of applying fashion’s edge to real-world performance.
The board’s design evolution benefitted directly from Luna Rossa’s sailing innovations, repurposing hydrodynamic principles for the sky. The result: a piece of gear as much at home on the open ocean as in controlled descent above a city skyline. The effort underscores Prada Linea Rossa’s commitment to pushing boundaries—not just in fashion, but across sport and engineering.

This stunt marks the latest chapter in an ongoing partnership between Prada Linea Rossa and Red Bull, dedicated to celebrating those who dare to rewrite the limits of what’s possible. MacCormac’s skysurf onto the Bay Bridge is more than a world-first; it’s a testament to collaboration, imagination, and the power of design to enable the extraordinary.
