Review of Prada Re-Nylon: Episode 2 Ad Campaign by National Geographic CreativeWorks, Director Johnny Langenheim, Videographer Keidrych Wasley, and Creative Director Richard Phillips with talent Benedict Cumberbatch
Prada continues its mission to spotlight the world’s threatened ecosystems. “Drowning in Noise” is the second installment of the film collaboration with National Geographic CreativeWorks highlighting the partnership between the brand’s Re-Nylon program and the SEA BEYOND organization.
Benedict Cumberbatch returns from the first chapter of the series, this time exploring the environmental impacts on the underwater soundscape in Bodø, Norway. The film, set within the Arctic Circle’s oceans, showcases how marine mammals, particularly whales, use intricate sounds for communication that can traverse vast ocean distances.
The narrative delves into the challenges these creatures face from human activities such as shipping and seismic surveys in oil and gas exploration, which contribute to noise pollution in the marine environment. Throughout the documentary, environmental advocate, actress, and Goodwill Ambassador Valentina Gottlieb discusses these issues with Dr. Heike Vester, a biologist specializing in the social behavior and bio-acoustics of marine animals. Their conversation highlights the crucial measures needed to mitigate these disturbances and preserve the acoustic balance vital for marine life sustainability.
The campaign is another strong example of Prada’s masterful ability to blend its various cultural initiatives – fashion, cinematic partnerships, the art world, environmentalism – into compelling digital narratives.
