The puffer jacket has had varying degrees of popularity through the decades, but ever since the late 80s when it crossed over from practical outerwear for the ski slopes to a street-ready style staple, it’s never been far from the spotlight.
The Fall 2025 season is shaping up to be another big moment for the puffer, as the voluminous technical outerwear was a frequent sight on the runways of the menswear season in Milan and Paris, from Auralee’s casually cool normcore to IM Men’s innovative experiments to Mordecai’s voluminous avant-garde silhouettes. Even Yohji Yamamoto, who famously does things his own way without playing into trends, put his own spin on the puffer technique – but not without, of course, incorporating it into his own beautifully tailored and darkly dramatic vision.
