The Market – Runway Wins and Market Moves: Burberry, Ferragamo, Gucci, and Lanvin in the Spotlight

Burberry and Ferragamo Gain Momentum, Gucci Awaits Its Next Move, and Lanvin Charts a New Course

This week, we saw an interesting alignment between the runway and the market. Both Burberry and Ferragamo delivered well-received shows, coinciding with a boost in their stock performance—Burberry rose 4.85% for the week, while Ferragamo climbed 8.44%.

Meanwhile, Gucci, which presented one of its stronger collections in recent seasons, didn’t see the same market enthusiasm. Kering, its parent company, dipped 2.51% over the week. While runway reviews don’t typically have a direct correlation with stock performance, the growing digitalization of fashion may increase their market impact over time. It’s a dynamic worth watching, especially as anticipation builds for Gucci’s next creative director announcement.

Beyond the runway, Lanvin reported its 2024 earnings, revealing a challenging year. The group posted preliminary revenue of €328.2 million, a 23% decline from 2023, with its namesake brand dropping 26% to €83 million. When a company leans on a four-year CAGR to cushion a rough annual report, it’s often a sign that a new team is looking to buy time and instill confidence. That’s exactly the case at Lanvin, where Andy Lew, previously CEO of St. John Knits, stepped into the role of Lanvin Group Executive President in January.

Lew, alongside newly appointed Creative Director Peter Copping, is central to the brand’s turnaround efforts. Copping made a strong debut with his January collection, and all eyes will be on his next outing to see whether Lanvin’s strategy starts to pay off in the market.

For now, the focus shifts to Paris Fashion Week, where LVMH continues to set the tone and Kering is actively reshaping its future.  Meanwhile, we’ll keep our eye (with a wink) on that theory of market impact.
