The exhibition reveals never-before-seen prints of Leiter’s friends, lovers, and strangers
Saint Laurent Rive Droite will host an exhibition of Saul Leiter’s Carte Postale series, curated by Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello, from May 8 to June 14, 2025. Known for his pioneering color street photography of post-war New York, Leiter also created a lesser-known body of black-and-white work in postcard format, which now takes center stage.
The Carte Postale series features small-format prints developed by Leiter in his own darkroom during the late 1960s and early 1970s. These photographs capture personal, intimate moments—portraits of friends, lovers, and strangers—revealing the tender sensibility behind his lens. Initially exhibited by Gallery FIFTY ONE in 2024, this is one of the first public showings of the collection in Paris.
Each photograph is imbued with emotional nuance, offering a rare look into the artist’s private world. A limited number of prints and a special ten-card postcard set will be available for purchase during the show at the Saint Laurent Rive Droite boutique at 213 rue Saint-Honoré.
A cultural concept space conceived by Vaccarello, Rive Droite continues to evolve as a platform for art, fashion, photography, music, and design—extending the DNA of Saint Laurent into new creative territory.
