Mythology and Modernism Inform Freedom of Expression
Sankuanz’s creative director Shangguan Zhe found inspiration this season in the mystical dakinis, revered deities in Asia known for their duality of aggression and beauty, symbolizing freedom of the self.
Zhe blended this mysticism with elements of ancient Chinese traditional clothing and Western shapes in the latest collection, a signature style that continues to evolve with each season.
The collection featured Zhe’s distinctive crossed collars, jacket fronts, and hip-hugging belts, with denim playing a significant role throughout.
The show began with an asymmetric khaki jacket layered over a short denim skirt, followed by a blue plaid wraparound shirt paired with slouchy jeans featuring an off-kilter button-up fly.
Silk jacquards, taffetas, and a range of colorways from earth tones to light yellow and blue added depth to the collection, with some pieces incorporating camo prints and deconstructed twists.
The designer’s dagger motif extended to shoes, bags, and jewelry, including necklaces and earrings adorned with traditional Chinese motifs and symbols.
