Nikki Campbell and Sophie Coote founded SIR. in 2014 from their apartment in Bondi. Seven
years on the cult Australian brand opens the doors to their Flagship store where the origins of
the brand began.
The flagship boutique pays homage to the brands evolution and overall sentiment with a feeling
that is gentle but confident. The shopfront itself has a beautifully poised outlook with large
pieces of curved glass, steel framed and hand painted in a luxurious espresso brown. It’s
sophisticated, endorsing a contemporary woman of taste.
The build features a polished concrete floor with Corian inlays that ‘click’ underfoot. The walls
are spray-rendered to mimic a Bondi-style beach house, but the colours are subdued without
being stark or insensitive.
The palette of soft greys and off whites mixes with tones of beige velvets and sheer cream
linens, all handsomely firmed-up with the cut of stainless steel joinery and the crisp visual snap
of acrylic.
The lighting is necessarily reductive and architectural, allowing for the vintage furniture pieces to
be statuesque. Custom racking in heftier square-set profiles are contrasted with gently curved
and rendered fitting rooms. The details of their hand-painted frames and hand-made metal
hardware become focal.
The furniture is predominantly 1950’s to 1980’s Italian and adds an artful and sculptural
complexity. There are 1950s Brutalist stools from France in the fitting rooms, and an iconic
Swiss ‘De Sede’ (‘Non-stop’) sofa sits centre stage in a rich chocolate brown leather. Custom
silk carpet in a caramel tone reflects the Corian inlays throughout the entirety of the store. Stone
also features. Rich earthy marbles are played against sympathetic natural travertines. The result
is a harmony of vintage, custom, and contemporary elements.
Having garnered international success with fans across the globe, SIR. remains quintessentially
Australian.
