Review of Stone Island Fall 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Ferdinando Verderi and Photographer David Sims and models Liam Gallagher, Peggy Gou, Russell Tovey, and Sage Elsesser
Stone Island continues its investigation of the distinctive individuals that make up its global community with its Fall 2024 campaign. Continuing the “Community as a Form of Research” concept first kicked off in January, the campaign was again created in collaboration with photographer David Sims and creative director Ferdinando Verderi.
This latest installment of the brand’s ongoing pop-culture anthropology project features interviews with another eclectic group of four creative and successful individuals: rock-and-roll icon Liam Gallagher of Oasis, DJ and producer Peggy Gou, actor and art collector Russell Tovey, and musician and skateboarder Sage Elsesser.
Alongside the personality-filled portraits, each star shares laconic responses selections from a pre-written list of 100 questions by curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, offering brief yet multifaceted glimpses into their perspectives and inner worlds.
The approach is a smart way to make the most of celebrity casting, pairing the famous names and faces with rarer insight into the people behind them. With the Oasis reunion tour getting a ton of hype and probably reigniting the blokecore trend, Liam Gallagher is a particularly smart get. Peggy Gou is also an exciting and smart addition, especially considering that the previous campaigns featured only men.
Balancing thoughtful casting and focused visuals with a smart use of text (something we don’t see very often), the campaign only continues to grow in strength with each strategic new chapter.
