Review of Stuart Weitzman Fall 2022 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Trey Laird and Photographer Mario Sorrenti with model Kim Kardashian
Stuart Weitzman steps boldly into a new era with the monumental arrival of a new brand ambassador: Kim Kardashian. The cultural icon is captured by photographer Mario Sorrenti for the luxury footwear brand’s Fall 2022 campaign – titled “Stand Strong” – which also features creative direction from Trey Laird.
Captured by Sorrenti in bold black-and-white portraiture, Kardashian poses in the newest iterations of the brand’s iconic boots. The imagery nods to the brand’s striking new visual identity, designed to fuse relevance, creativity, and fashion, while also bringing its renowned black-and-white campaign history into its next era. Coupled with bold movement and strong stances, it draws focus to the confident woman wearing the shoes – and the shoes themselves.
“Kim embodies the woman I design for: She’s spirited and lives life on her own terms. Whether it’s with bright thigh-high boots, sandals that tie all the way up the leg or combat boots that are strong and genderless, it is my hope that women feel unstoppable in SW shoes.”
Edmundo Castillo, Stuart Weitzman Head of Design
Stylist and i-D magazine editor-in-chief Alistair McKimm curated outfits that complemented the campaign styles, and Kardashian’s very own glam squad applied the finishing touches: Hairstylist Chris Appleton added texture to her now-iconic platinum ponytail, while makeup artist Ariel Tejada accentuated her distinct features.
I’m so excited to welcome Kim Kardashian as our brand ambassador for Fall 2022 and continue our brand ethos of celebrating strong women. She is a fashion icon and a cultural force who will expose the brand to the world in a way that has never been done before. This is a powerful partnership and we are proud of it.”
– Giorgio Sarné, CEO & Brand President, Stuart Weitzman
The Stand Strong campaign also marks a continuation of the brand’s philanthropic partnership with Vital Voices Global Partnership, a non-profit organization committed to investing in women leaders who are solving the world’s challenges.
Stuart Weitzman’s campaign imagery has gone through a number of phases with an impressive range of high-profile brand ambassadors, but the arrival of Kim K feels like the harbinger of a new era for the brand. A leading figure in fashion whose cultural status needs no explanation, the star’s presence is guaranteed to rocket the brand upwards toward new levels of engagement. It’s also a casting choice that affirms the brand’s renewed mission of dressing and championing powerful women. The simple yet slick and striking imagery conveys this powerful new brand identity with impressive force.
