Review of Stuart Weitzman ‘How Lovely to Be a Woman’ 2024 Ad Campaign by Photographer Ned Rogers with models Aly Raisman, Christy Turlington, Issa Rae, Lucy Liu and Ming Xi
Stuart Weitzman celebrates the leadership, purpose, and multifaceted identities of today’s leading ladies with its aptly titled “How Lovely to Be a Woman” campaign. Lensed by photographer Ned Rogers, the campaign stars five women who are multifaceted creative forces, spotlighting not just their beauty and cultural influence but also the lesser-seen core aspects of their identities and the values they work to uphold.
Iconic model Christy Turlington needs no introduction, but the brand also spotlight how she founded Every Mother Counts, a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere, inspired by her own birth experience. Similarly iconic is Lucy Liu, who has used her platform in her career as an actor and visual artist as a pioneering force for AANHPI representation in Hollywood. Captured in a gravity-defying portrait, Olympic gymnastics champion, sports commentator, and bestselling author Aly Raisman is also a fierce advocate for abuse prevention, changing the discourse in the sport to champion self-love, mental health and body positivity. After exploding into the spotlight to become one of today’s leading film and TV voices, Issa Rae is also a rising entrepreneur. This is her first global fashion campaign, and she rises to this milestone while serving legs for days. Finally, Chinese supermodel and actress Ming Xi breaks conventions as a mother of two young children with a prolific jet-setting career.
In addition to Rogers’ uplifting portraits of these stars, a film is set to release early next month to extend the narrative and dive deeper into this constellation of personalities.
A spirit of powerful, graceful womanhood has been the main aspiration of Stuart Weitzman’s campaign messaging, and the brand often teams with celebrity talents to bring this spirit to life. Here, however, these two practices mutually come together like never before, with the talented cast each embodying their own ideal of womanhood, forging distinct paths and doing it with a holistic sense of beauty, and inspiring others to do the same.
Finding a powerfully focused visual identity to reiterate its core celebration of womanhood, Stuart Weitzman makes one of the most confident displays of its purposeful style yet.
