British Fashion Council Spotlights Industry’s Pinnacle of Excellence

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has revealed the nominees for the illustrious Fashion Awards 2023, scheduled for December 4th at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. These awards, a cornerstone event by the BFC, not only highlight the essence of fashion as it melds with culture and entertainment but also serves as the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation. This year, particular emphasis is placed on British creative prowess and its resonating influence on the global fashion landscape.

In an industry-first, the BFC has opened up voting for the ‘Model of the Year’ category to the public. The shortlist of nominees was expertly curated by key press and buyers, boasting profound industry insights. Following this, a Voting Committee comprising 1,000 prominent industry personalities will finalize the winners.

The Fashion Awards 2023 Nominees:

British Womenswear Designer of the Year
Recognises a leading British womenswear designer who has consistently made a global impact with their innovative and creative designs, shaping the burgeoning international womenswear landscape.

Menswear Designer of the Year
Recognises a leading British menswear designer who has consistently made a global impact with their innovative and creative designs, shaping the burgeoning international menswear landscape.

Model of the Year
Recognizes the global impact of a model who, over the last 12 months, has dominated the industry, with an influence that transcends the catwalk.

New Establishment Menswear
Recognises a menswear designer who has created a new movement in British fashion and has had a sustained impact on the industry globally. Designers are chosen based on the showcasing of their collections, their business growth, and the international headlines driven by their work.

New Establishment Womenswear
Recognises a womenswear designer who has created a new movement in British fashion and has had a sustained impact on the industry globally. Designers are chosen based on the showcasing of their collections, their business growth, and the international headlines driven by their work.

Esteemed industry experts forming the voting panel for designer awards include Caroline Issa (BFC Non-Exec Board Member and CEO, Tank Magazine) and Sarah Mower (BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent & Chief Critic, Vogue Runway). For the ‘Model of the Year’, luminaries like Anita Bitton (Casting Director) and Rosie Vogel (Global Director of Talent and Casting, Vogue) have been entrusted with the selection process.

Nominees for the Designer of the Year category and the BFC Foundation Award will be announced in November.

The 2023 ceremony will also see special accolades such as the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, Outstanding Achievement Award, and Leader of Change. A segment, NEW WAVE: Creatives, is set to celebrate 50 global young creative talents who have reshaped the industry.
