The Louvre Announces Gala Fundraiser and Fashion Exhibition

The Museum’s First Fashion-Focused Exhibition Will Kick Off with a Met Gala-Esque Fundraiser Evening

The Louvre Museum is set to host its first-ever exhibition exclusively focused on fashion, titled “Louvre Couture. Art and Fashion: Statement Pieces,” scheduled to open in late January. The event will integrate fashion into the museum’s permanent collections, establishing a dynamic conversation between the exhibits and the Louvre’s Department of Decorative Arts. The exhibition will feature over sixty prominent fashion pieces and thirty accessories, placed amidst some of the world’s most esteemed decorative artworks.

In conjunction with this exhibition, the Louvre will introduce the “Grand Dîner,” a new, ambitious fundraising initiative designed to support the museum’s ongoing activities. For the inaugural edition of the Grand Dîner, over thirty tables were auctioned, and the museum has successfully met its fundraising target of one million euros for the event. This achievement is bolstered by the enthusiasm and commitment of the Louvre’s friends, patrons, and major fashion houses, as well as leading designers who have contributed pieces to the exhibition. All parties involved have confirmed their participation in the gala, which is set for Tuesday, 4 March 2025, coinciding with the start of Fashion Week.

The evening will commence with a reception and guided tour, followed by a gala dinner held in the Cour Marly, nestled in the center of the Louvre. Festivities will continue into the night with an after-party under the iconic Louvre Pyramid.

The exhibition itself promises to engage audiences with around 66 outfits and 30 accessories. Works from iconic fashion houses including Chanel, Dries Van Noten, Dior, Balenciaga and Yohji Yamamoto will be displayed across an expansive 9,700 square feet. This curated fashion display will highlight the Louvre’s wide-ranging decorative arts holdings, stretching from suits of armor, ceramics, ivories, tapestries, scientific instruments, jewelry, bronzes, stained glass and silverware, all the way to the luxurious Napoleon III apartments.

The exhibition is set to run until July 21.
