Gene Pressman’s memoir revisits the rise and legacy of the iconic New York retailer\
hey All Came to Barneys: A Personal History of the World’s Greatest Store (Viking; September 2) has entered the New York Times bestseller list at number six in print nonfiction.

In the book, Gene Pressman, former co-CEO and grandson of founder Barney Pressman, traces the trajectory of Barneys from its beginnings as a downtown Manhattan discount suit shop to its height as a global retail institution. Drawing on his 25 years inside the company, Pressman recounts both the triumphs and tensions that shaped its legacy.
The memoir revisits Barneys’ role in championing designers such as Armani, Alaïa, and Louboutin, while also chronicling the financial and familial challenges that ultimately led to its downfall. Billed as part fashion history, part business account, and part personal reflection, the volume blends archival storytelling with behind-the-scenes insights from a transformative era in fashion retail.
Pressman previously co-authored Chasing Cool, a distillation of his marketing philosophy now taught at over 100 universities. A graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, he currently resides in Palm Beach with his family.
They All Came to Barneys is available now through Viking.
