After A Four-Year Hiatus, the Menswear Designer Announces His Second Consecutive Runway Show
Menswear designer Todd Snyder has announced that he’s set to return to New York Fashion Week for the second consecutive season in February.
Slated for Feb. 6, unofficially known as menswear day, the show will take place at the Academy Mansion on East 63rd Street. The same day also features the New York Men’s Day exhibiting a biannual showcase of emerging designers.
Snyder’s return to NYFW in September followed a hiatus of more than four years. The designer staged an intimate, salon-style show at the Le Rock restaurant in Rockefeller Center. This marked Snyder’s re-entry into the fashion scene after being a guest designer at Pitti Uomo in Florence, where he presented a keenly-anticipated show at the historic Stazione Leopolda before 800 people.
“After doing the show at Pitti a year ago, it got me into the process again and the rigor that goes with doing a show,” Snyder said. “It’s really hard but that’s what fashion is all about, thinking more about what inspires me and taking more risks.”
Between 2020 and 2024, Snyder concentrated on expanding his direct-to-consumer business, which doubled in size. Reconsidering the need for shows, he redirected his efforts towards creating commercial products to boost sales. However, he confessed that he was “not thinking as creatively.”
Being asked to present at Pitti revived the creative spark in Snyder, prompting him to revisit fashion. In his own words, this experience encouraged him to think more about “what’s next”. Running runway shows during NYFW also allowed him to keep his brand at the forefront in retailers’ minds. Snyder anticipates that his brand could venture into wholesaling within the next two years, with plans for 25 stores across the country by mid-year.
While the Academy Mansion show will be larger than the one at Le Rock, it will not be as extensive as the Pitti presentation. The current expectation is for 40-45 looks to be highlighted next month. The show’s location was deliberately chosen by Snyder because “it looks like a Parisian or New York prep school and our theme for the season is very inspired by school uniforms. So we’ll be able to express the collection in a way that showcases the line.”
