Toteme has announce the opening of its first UK flagship store. The 180 sqm space, located at 12 Mount Street, marks the house’s first European store outside of Sweden. Toteme at 12 Mount Street showcases Sweden’s design legacy in a modern context and serene setting. Inside, the historical Victorian architecture meets the distinct expression, meticulous craftsmanship and design codes of Toteme. Minimal interiors are animated with layers of textures and tiling, most prominently visible in the limestone used for walls, flooring and fixtures. Graphic accents rendered in bronze nod to the Vienna Secession movement which inspired Toteme’s monogram, combined with functional elements like mirrors and trays concealed in the walls, creating an element of discovery. The space is home to artworks and furniture by 20th century Swedish designers and contemporary international artists curated by the founders. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a piece by American post-conceptual artist Wade Guyton, facing a classic sculpture from the early 1900s by Sweden’s most famous sculptor, Carl Milles. The furniture highlights include a nickel sofa by Marc Newson, armchairs and a table by Otto Schultz, a daybed by Olle Engkvist, and lamps inspired by functionalist design pioneer Gunnar Asplund, which were first designed for the New York flagship.
It was important for us to find a space that we could make our own and turn into a Toteme destination. A lot of craftsmanship has gone into the design of the London store, at a first glance it feels quite minimal, but when you look closer you notice the unique details and textures.
– Karl Lindman, Co-Founder, Toteme
At the time of opening, the store will hold pieces from Toteme’s Pre Spring 24 collection spanning all categories, including the debut jewelry collection. The fashion house appointed acclaimed French interior photographer François Halard to capture the space, which is created in close collaboration with Swedish architects Halleroed. The Toteme London flagship opened on Saturday, December 9 at 12 Mount Street.
