Willy Chavarria Unveils Oaxaca Slip On for Adidas Originals in Puerto Rico
Designer Willy Chavarria has introduced a new silhouette as part of his ongoing collaboration with Adidas Originals. The Chavarria Oaxaca Slip On made its debut during a panel at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, hosted by Adidas and featuring Archival Specialist Sandra Trapp, Originals Design Director Rafael Mayorga, and Director of Storytelling Valentina Benitez Castellanos.
The Oaxaca draws inspiration from the traditional huarache sandal, long embedded in Mexican and Chicano style culture. Chavarria’s reinterpretation features a leather upper and exaggerated sneaker sole, merging craftsmanship and streetwear in a nod to cultural continuity and contemporary expression.
The panel discussion explored themes of heritage and innovation, emphasizing how rooted design perspectives can lead to more resonant collaborations. The event was part of a broader initiative by Adidas Originals in Puerto Rico, which also showcased the brand’s Adidas para Bad Bunny archive and celebrated its ongoing partnership with the artist.
