Sculpture

Spring 2025 Fashion Trend

Like sculpture, clothing occupies three-dimensional space. Designers explored this spatial connection across the runways of Spring 2025, deploying innovative structural techniques to create silhouettes that carved out striking embodied forms.

Though a sculpture can take any shape, the Ancient Greek and Roman practice of sculpting a harmonious human form still weighs deeply on the artistic conscience, which can in turn inform the practice of fashion as dressing the body.

Victoria Beckham, for instance, deployed sculptural fabrications of sheer fabrics that seemed to be frozen in motion, wrapping the torso in ways that felt reminiscent of classical portrayals of Nike or Aphrodite. Alaïa drew inspiration from architecture, channeling the setting of the Guggenheim to explore spatial aspects of curving lines.

Bottega Veneta and Khatie created expansive and intricate sculptural silhouettes by building up layers of textural fabrics, while Simone Rocha and Carolina Herrera achieved sculptural impact through supersized versions of traditional dressmaking techniques.

Then there was Prada, where Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons set out to create a collection that defied algorithms and expectations with a controlled chaos of mixed-up craft moments.
