Attention, Fragile! Highlights Art and Fashion’s Intersection with Skateboarding at the New Sotheby’s Salon
Sotheby’s Paris has opened Attention, Fragile!, a retail pop-up and exhibition blending elements of skateboarding culture with luxury fashion, design, and contemporary art. The showcase, curated by Sarah Andelman, runs through December 20 at Sotheby’s new headquarters at 83 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
Andelman, the iconic fashion mover and shaker behind the former concept store Colette and head of the consultancy Just an Idea, has curated a selection of works by contemporary artists including Andy Picci, Inès Mélia, Katerina Jebb, and PZ Today. The exhibition draws inspiration from skateboarding, highlighting its transition from a subcultural activity to an influence in fashion, music, and design.
“I wanted to create a space where tradition meets modernity, exclusivity meets accessibility, and skateboarding culture finds a new audience,” Andelman said.
The exhibition includes a range of items for sale, such as jewelry, watches, handbags, and books, alongside gift items like ceramics and designer accessories. Featured brands include Maison Balzac, Helle Mardahl, and La Cavalerie. The selection reflects a mix of functional objects and artistic expression, with a focus on individuality and creative design.
The setting, known as The Salon, is a new addition to Sotheby’s Parisian location, designed with open interiors and large windows to create a welcoming atmosphere. The exhibition also coincides with the release of Skateboard Culture by Morgan Bouvant and Sébastien Carayol, which explores the artistic and cultural impact of skateboarding.
