Prada Group Names Christopher Bugg First Chief Communication Officer

Christopher Bugg steps into a promisingly new, yet key role as Versace integration marks a new era of brand storytelling.

The Prada Group has announced the appointment of Christopher Bugg as its first Chief Communication Officer, a newly created role signaling the company’s evolving corporate structure as it prepares to integrate Versace into its luxury portfolio. Reporting directly to Lorenzo Bertelli, the Group’s Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Bugg will oversee the global communication strategies across all Prada Group brands, including Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s, and Car Shoe. His promotion reflects the Group’s continued investment in strategic storytelling and brand positioning on a global scale.

Bugg joined Prada in January 2020 as Marketing and Communication Director for Asia and swiftly ascended to Group Communication Director later that year. His tenure has been marked by a deepening of the Group’s narrative coherence across markets and an elevated articulation of brand values. In a statement, the company credited him with playing a key role in strengthening the global positioning of its portfolio. His experience spans leading luxury houses: prior to Prada, he served as Global Digital Communication Director at Louis Vuitton in Paris, following an eight-year tenure at Calvin Klein in New York, where he rose to Global Vice President of Digital Marketing.

The leadership shift arrives as the Prada Group advances toward finalizing its high-profile acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings, valued at €1.25 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year, with CEO Andrea Guerra underscoring the Group’s cautious but confident approach, emphasizing the balance between urgency and thoughtful brand stewardship. The first collection under Versace’s new creative direction—helmed by Dario Vitale—is slated for a September 26 presentation during Milan Fashion Week. Rather than a traditional runway show, the event will take the form of an intimate homage to the brand’s legacy and outlook to the future.

The house of Versace, long steered by Donatella Versace following her brother Gianni’s passing, is undergoing a carefully orchestrated transition. Donatella now holds the title of Chief Brand Ambassador, while Vitale, who previously served as Miu Miu’s ready-to-wear Design Director, assumed the role of Chief Creative Officer as of April 1. Meanwhile, the Prada Group continues to report steady momentum despite macroeconomic uncertainty, posting €2.74 billion in revenues for the first half of 2025—an 8 percent increase year-over-year—while maintaining solid group profitability with €386 million in net profit. The appointment of Bugg in a new position signals a sharpened focus on cohesive communication as the Group enters a transformative chapter and expanding brand portfolio.
