Review of Banana Republic Holiday 2022 Ad Campaign by Photographer Richard Phibbs with models Louise de Chevigny, Nya Gatbel, Chinchin Hsu, Cherokee Jack, and Ryan Porter
Banana Republic celebrates seasonal magic and adventure with its Holiday 2022 campaign by photographer and director Richard Phibbs. The campaign sees the brand embark on another chapter of its recurring series of exploring different geographical locations, this time landing in Iceland.
From its traditional turf-roofed cottages to its stunningly beautiful and otherworldly landscapes, the iconic visual presence of the Icelandic countryside forms a fittingly epic destination for Banana Republic’s ongoing adventure of globe-trotting proportions.
The setting is especially fitting to lend a feeling of seasonal coziness to the campaign, with lush green highlands setting off the red palette of the festive and warm styling.
The campaign’s short film makes use of epic cinematography and a sweeping soundtrack to further capture the visual power of the landscape, including reversing the playback on footage of a massive waterfall to symbolize the magic of the season.
The campaign nicely balances the excitement of a destination holiday with the feeling of celebration and togetherness that should accompany any holiday. It’s good to see Banana Republic able to stick to its recurring and recognizable campaign theme while smartly infusing it with some holiday magic.
