'Métiers D'art Collection 2022' Ad Campaign

Review of Chanel ‘Métiers D’art Collection 2022’ Ad Campaign by Photographer Mikael Jansson with models Adit Priscilla, Loli Bahia, and Mica Argañaraz

Chanel celebrates its latest Métiers D’art collection with a crisp yet glamorous campaign captured by photographer Mikael Jansson. The campaign arrives fresh on the heels of the collection’s recent presentation from Florence, which closed the chapter initiated by the collection’s debut in December from the Chanel’s new Métiers D’art headquarters in Paris.

Jansson makes unconventional use of lighting to cast the faces and figures of his models in shadow, making them stand out against the white backdrop and bring the true stars of the campaign to the fore: the decadent glamor of the intricately layered jewelry and the meticulous craftsmanship that adorns the clothing.

The collection’s purpose of championing the house’s master craftsmanship and their dialogue with creative director Virginie Viard thus comes sharply to the fore of the campaign. Chanel is always smart to capitalize on its created runway assets by extending their life and creative world through campaigns and other activations. Arriving just in time for the collection’s launch in boutiques, the Florence show – which was celebrated with its own campaign – and now this campaign are strong examples of the approach, reasserting the house’s vision and mastery of Parisian savoir-faire.
