THE VIBE

THE THEME
Daniel Del Core continues to be one of the most consistently excellent young designers in fashion. Utilizing a mastery of just a few structural techniques, with a particular emphasis on draping and corset-like structures (without the constriction), and a brilliant use of zips, his Fall 2024 collection referenced organic structures and the natural process of metamorphosis craft a singular vision of expressive elegance.

Del Core continues to draw inspiration from nature, and in particular from the insect kingdom – an underrated source of beauty that, in this reviewer’s opinion, has at least as much to offer as the overdone motif of flowers. The most overt reference is to the wings of butterflies that illuminate jersey bodycon dresses in impressively executed mesh cutouts. But more subtle and architectural references are present as well, from the zipped bodice pieces or shoulders that echo the structures of beetles to the cashmere hoods and cape coats that wrap their wearer like a cocoon.

THE BUZZWORDS
Organic. Protective. Metamorphic. Precise.

THE SHOWSTOPPER

Look #33
Subtly but fully embodying the collection’s entomology inspiration, the gorgeous fluid movement of this dress – which works perfectly with its color – belies its impeccably architectural construction.

THE QUOTE

Del Core Fall 2024 Fashion Show

I’m a actually a shy person, but I think everybody wants to be hugged by a cashmere coat. And that connects to the protective aspect of the insect structures too – all of us have body parts, and it’s look but don’t touch – it’s kind of a sexy thing.”

THE WRAP UP

It would be easy to call Daniel Del Core one of the most promising young designers in fashion – but that would seem to mean his greatness is in the future, when in fact we are seeing it now. No doubt major fashion houses will be clamoring to get him as their creative director soon (cough cough McQueen cough cough Alaïa cough Fendi), but this collection proves he is already a master of drape, cut, structure, and flow. He puts these techniques to work in a way that feels all his own, yet has a protective and sensual quality that can appeal to a broad range of women. The brand may be young, and we’re excited to see it continue to transform, but it has already emerged from its chrysalis and spread its stunning wings.
