Luxury fragrance brand Discothèque, co-founded by Jessie Willner and Hanover Booth, has introduced a new range of seven fragrances designed to evoke the atmosphere of famous nightclubs and their glamorous attendees. This collection, which premiered exclusively at Selfridges, aims to immerse customers in the sensory experiences of nightlife through scent.
Among the fragrances is Heathens, Cowboys and the Santa Ana Winds, inspired by Helena’s, a popular 1980s Los Angeles club known for attracting celebrities such as Madonna and Sean Penn. The scent features a blend of palmarosa, sweet grass, tea leaf, cedarwood, cardamon, and white musk, paying homage to the legendary venue where Jack Nicholson first met Rebecca Broussard, a waitress at the club.
Other fragrances in the collection include Sweat, Tears, Paradise; Dark Imagination; Lola at Coat Check; All Night Until First Light; Call for a Good Time; and Baise Moi on the Dancefloor. The latter is a tribute to the famed Parisian nightclub Les Bains Douches, frequented by fashion icons such as Karl Lagerfeld, Kate Moss, and Jean Paul Gaultier.
“The whole idea behind the brand is to dive deep into the world of Discothèque and translate the emotions and feelings of nightlife through scent, creating a full sensory experience,” Booth explained.
A night out — the music, the colors, the smells — can be so deeply connected to memory, time or place.”
Willner added, “We’re so inspired by an earlier time than this, when you had to live in the moment — you couldn’t endlessly doom-scroll on your phone. You had to actually go out to see what people were wearing or hear what the DJs were playing to find your next favorite record.”
The fragrances were crafted in collaboration with five perfumers: Elodie Durande, Christian Provenzano, Nathalie Rouquet, Jean-Charles Mignon, and Julie Pluchet. Pluchet has previously created fragrances for luxury brands including Dunhill, Penhaligon’s, and Graff.
