Dolce & Gabbana celebrates its new Casa collection – which just debuted during Milan Design Week – with a vibrant and romantic campaign by director and photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott featuring Machine Gun Kelly.

The film’s delightfully melodramatic narrative follows four distinct characters as they compose love letters to unseen companions. Surrounded by lavish and colorful decor from the Casa collection that perfectly draws out and embodies each character’s particular and overwrought personality, they compose their ornate epistles as they wallow in sensual and romantic emotional agony.

The accompanying photographs summon a similar energy while channeling the compositional richness of Renaissance painting into lavish and ornate windows into contemporary decadence.

The campaign is a master class in using set design – which, in this case, is directly connected to the collection itself and takes on an analogous role to styling – to communicate character and mood. Mert & Marcus take a relatively simple concept and render it brilliant through over the top writing and excellent production work, taking the comfort of home and filling it with outlandish fantasy. There’s no place like the casa.
