Shaking up the status quo designers used the twin design styles of preppy and Sloane Ranger and gave them a remix for fall 2026. With the equestrian scarf emerging as the must-have accessory of the season the off-duty style of the private school and country club set moved on last seasons ‘Horse Girl’ trend. As designers fused new materials, sportswear influences and hyper-coloured checks, stripes, and knits together to breathe new life into their collections.
Argyle patterns were updated in oversized and floral embroidered iterations at Altuzarra and Khaite. Aknvas paired a cable knitted sweater with a bubble-hem skirt for the ultimate 1980s prom princess. Fair-isle knits were re-coloured at Rabanne and Moschino and the rugby shirt at Stella McCartney and Conner Ives will become the new casual topper, especially following the well-received return of Polo Ralph Lauren on the Milan men’s runway last season. Zimmermann played homage to female trailblazers and the cricket jumpers that would have been worn by the first Australian woman’s cricket team. Yet, leave it to Matthieu Blazy’s star turn at Chanel to revamp ladylike tweed skirt suits via chainmail and Jackson Pollock-esque paint-splatters.
