First Peek at Paris’ New Dover Street Market

Rei Kawakubo’s Bold New Dover Street Market in Paris Breaks Retail Mold

Rei Kawakubo’s radical approach to retail has unveiled a new Dover Street Market in Paris. The store, set to open on May 24th, challenges traditional norms by hiding merchandise behind curved walls and leaving half the sales floor empty. The unique architectural design, bursting with color and surprising elements, aims to offer visitors an unparalleled retail experience.

The store, set in a 17th-century townhouse located at 35-37 Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, features elliptical rooms, unconventional fixtures, and galvanized steel shelving that create a mesmerizing environment. Adrian Joffe, CEO of Dover Street Market, described the space as a “voyage of discovery” where attention to detail is crucial.

Kawakubo’s vision for the store blends high-end fashion brands like Prada, Balenciaga, and Bottega Veneta with emerging designers, fostering an atmosphere of creativity and innovation. With around 150 brands showcased, including exclusive offerings, the Paris location aims to continue the legacy of its London counterpart.

Unlike traditional retail spaces, Dover Street Market in Paris integrates dining areas, a bookstore, and underground spaces for events within the store structure. The unique approach to blending merchandise with architectural statements is aimed at providing customers with a unique and stimulating experience that goes beyond shopping.

As the opening approaches, Joffe expressed high expectations for the new store, envisioning it as a destination that offers constant discovery and excitement. The store’s blend of renowned and emerging brands, along with cultural events, sets it apart as a vibrant and dynamic retail environment.

Looking ahead, Joffe hopes to maintain the spirit of creativity and innovation at Dover Street Market in Paris, making it a place for exchange, discovery, and personal connection. The eclectic mix of fashion, art, and culture aims to create an ever-changing and engaging experience for visitors.
