Highsnobiety launches collection of apparel and lifestyle goods in collaboration with Disney.

Highsnobiety, the media pioneer who since 2005 has shaped the forefront of culture from the proliferation of streetwear to its infiltration of luxury, unveils a new collection of apparel and lifestyle goods inspired by Disney’s Fantasia in celebration of the iconic film.

Since its 1940 release, Fantasia, the animated film that features seven segments set to classical music, has received critical acclaim and a cult following for ground-breaking visual design that was well beyond its time.

The collection takes a look back on the motion picture and ways in which it has stood at the forefront of film culture symbolizing innovation. Each piece celebrates this legacy and revisits the outstanding visuals, pulling reference from the Disney archive and film stills to capture the story that is Fantasia.

Scenes have been frozen and repurposed as graphics on sweatshirts and hoodies; the unmistakable Mickey Mouse character from Fantasia in robe and sorcerer hat is referenced throughout as a consistent motif across hoodies, t-shirts, caps and tote bags. Further characters and phrases that evoke the spirit of the film are seen throughout, all in a color palette of rich burgundy, blue, gold and tan.

Most notably, a new timepiece created in collaboration with UNIMATIC references the token Mickey Mouse watch memorabilia that has since become a coveted collectable. Following UNIMATIC’s design approach based on function and utility, the U1S-HS watch is a slim style centered by Mickey Mouse on the watch face. Each timepiece comes with interchangeable straps in navy, burgundy and black and has only been produced in a unique edition of 100. Consistent with this partnership’s decision to reinterpret heirloom moments within Disney’s history for the modern cultural pioneer, the creation of this modern watch with references to the traditional Disney design bridges the gap between old and new.

Fantasia and Highsnobiety share a core DNA of looking to the future of culture. It was a privilege to have access to the Disney archive to create this celebration of a film which was ahead of its time as evidenced by its continued cultural impact and reference in modern film today.
