Spring 2024 Ad Campaign

Review of Jil Sander Spring 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Directors Lucie and Luke Meier with Photographer Jack Davison with models Julia Nobis and Yuto Ebihara

Jil Sander embraces sunshine and sophistication in its Spring 2024 campaign by photographer Jack Davison.

The imagery continues the brand’s favored campaign approach of artful and intimate portraits created by a talented and distinctive photographer who was hand-selected by the brand’s creative director couple, Lucie and Luke Meier. Captured in Tenerife, Davison’s soulful and delicately colored portraits make excellent use of the famous Canary Islands sunshine, creating rich plays of light and shadow.

Shot with a grainy vintage film feel, the accompanying video clips push this soulful and atmospheric spirit while quietly putting the portraits in motion.

It might be a bit of a missed opportunity; however, it is not to have explored this location more fully. While the abstract architectural backdrops do provide nice color and texture and hint at a vibrant cultural exploration, the campaign doesn’t have the strong sense of place that the choice to include the location in the images seems to aspire to. Tenerife has an iconically beautiful landscape, and it could have been nice to explore that a bit and bring a new dimension into the imagery.

Nonetheless, Jil Sander campaigns always feature beautiful clothes seen through the eyes of a unique photographer, and on this front, the brand succeeds again.
