Loewe Launches ‘Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro’ Capsule

Jonathan Anderson Ushers In 2021 With An Imaginative And Heartwarming Capsule Collection Commemorating Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘My Neighbor Totoro’

Jonathan Anderson believes the world needs more imagination and joy today and to help spread that the Loewe Creative Director has teamed with Studio Ghibli to launch a Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro’ capsule collection.

There are several reasons as to why we chose Totoro for this collaboration.…On one hand, there is Ghibli’s relationship with craft, which they approach from a perspective that still finds great value in traditional forms of animation. On the other hand, there are the values that My Neighbor Totoro as a whole stands for. I believe certain ideas the film conveys, such as the environment seen through the eyes of children and the concept of adventure, are very significant, especially in these times of uncertainty.

– Jonathan Anderson

Few movies embody imagination and joy as well as Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro; the story goes like this: two girls move to the countryside with their father to be closer to their mother who is in the hospital. Wandering around in the woods is their diversion of choice, and in those woods they meet a great number of mystical characters but non more enchanting than Totoro, a giant, plushy, rabbit-like figure. This film was produced in 1988 and, in the decades since, has amassed a strong cult following.

This following means that Totoro’s friendly face can be seen on clothes and accessories all around the world; if you haven’t seen Totoro around your town yet, now you won’t be able to miss it. This, however, is the first time the Studio Ghibli character will participate in the world of luxury fashion.

This collection is now available on the Loewe website. There you will find a variety of products such as clothes for men and women, bags, and other leather goods. In classic Anderson fashion, craftsmanship is the main focus in these products; in fact, craftsmanship was a large reason he wanted to collaborate with Studio Ghibli as they are renowned for their commitment to their craft.
