Resort 2023 Ad Campaign

Review of Marc Jacobs Resort 2023 Ad Campaign by Photographer Harley Weir with model Kate Moss

The 90s are back, again (still?): the iconic Kate Moss rocks her iconic pink hair in a new campaign for Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2023 collection. The supermodel was lensed by photographer Harley Weir.

In a memorable fashion moment, the famously blond Moss dyed her hair an electric pink for one week to walk Versace’s Spring 1999 show – a fleeting look that was immortalized in Juergen Teller’s now-classic portrait, which showed a much more intimate side of the model than her signature runway stride.

Now, just before the new year, Moss has returned to the bright shade, and is looking better than ever. It’s a particularly fitting choice for the final Marc Jacobs campaign of 2022, a year that saw the designer dig into his archives and reunite with iconic muses from throughout his career, like Winona Ryder, Lara Stone, and Kim Gordon.

While it could have been an interesting move to tap Juergen Teller, Harley Weir is one of the leading young photographers of today’s fashion landscape, and her lushly lit interior portraits of the inimitable and magenta-locked Moss balance a striking blend of subtle throwback flavor and slick contemporary style.

Kate Moss is pretty much guaranteed to make any campaign a big hit, and all the more so with an unexpected return to one of the most memorable moments of her career. But this campaign shows even smarter thinking in how to leverage these assets into a creative statement that excellently captures the Marc Jacobs brand and where it is at its current point in time.
