Simplicity, however much overlooked in the world of fashion, has the ability to make a statement, and for those who buy into it with confidence they understand that there are few brands within the menswear market who are catering to them, with a solid handwriting that won’t suddenly be overhauled every season.
Enter Neil Barrett, whose namesake label – with its over 20-year run – is a tale of perseverance which should be looked to for inspiration, as it seems it has not yet been given the appreciation it deserves. In the looks presented for fall 2024, it will be left to the wearer to give each piece its character. Assisted by Barrett’s fusion of the past and the future, there was a shifting of how clean cut clothes could “blend into new garments” according to the show notes. Revising well-known materials such as the British Harris Tweed with a technical update was one such way, while another was the spongey, almost cocooning knits which sat away from the body, and utilising colour to create quirky talking points in the contrast cuffs at the hem of his slightly cropped trousers was yet another.
Riffing on the idea of heritage may not break new ground or inspire column inches, but it is what can bridge the gap between unbridled experimentation and wearability.

This is what Neil Barrett has built his foundation on, and has garnered a deserved loyal following by adhering to these principles, and for fall 2024 the designer created a collection which will be familiar to his customer with a reflection on the need for modern twists, all while remaining grounded in what he does best.
