Review of Off-White Equipment Winter 2022 Ad Campaign by Creative Director of Agency X with Photographer Zhong Lin with models Edwin Tay, Pan Haowen
Off-White explores the intersection of functionality and radical silhouette with a new Winter 2022 campaign for its latest “Equipment” collaborative collection. The campaign was shot by photographer Zhong Lin, who boasts a truly unique style that comprises both the fantastical beauty and the unsettling surrealism of dreams.
Created in collaboration with fashion collective Post Archive Faction, modular outdoor gear creator Helinox, and iconic maker of the Swiss Army Knife, Victorinox, the Equipment collection comprises 12 functional and conceptual designs that explore the meaning and survival of humanity in our contemporary landscape.
The campaign focuses on the PAF-designed clothing pieces, which reference military utility in their adornment with laser-cut fig leaves. Lin’s imagery draws its impressive visual impact out of a careful consideration of the sculptural, rhythmic, serrated silhouettes of these unique pieces, while creating a sense of intimacy between her models.
At once intimate and monolithic, the campaign draws out a subtle message of unity behind the collection’s theme of survival: yes, technical equipment and adaptability is important, but if humans are going to survive and thrive, we have to do it together.
