Effective ad campaigns are pivotal for the growth and success of brand that don’t have the same kind of name recognition as major heritage houses. They infuse static design elements with vitality and purpose, compelling potential customers to engage with the brand’s narrative. For emerging or lesser-known brands, ad campaigns offer a unique opportunity to establish and communicate their identity, attracting new audiences and fostering brand loyalty.
While the biggest brands were revisiting the archive and taking a safely straightforward stance for their ad campaigns, the brands on our breakout list were often getting more creative, deploying humor, unexpected choices, and youthful perspectives to create uniquely compelling visual narratives.
Dsquared2 revisited the seedy yet glamorous world of adult film production in 80s L.A., and GCDS took a similarly risqué, documentary-informed approach. Walter Chiapponi’s first campaign for Blumarine explored the intimate moments when one returns home after a night out, while Marine Serre invited us along on a day in the life. Proenza Schouler called on the legendary Pamela Anderson, whose makeup-free look was particularly striking in a world of built-up beauty.
