Some of Spring 2027’s most inventive thinking came with a handle. The smaller bags, in particular, offered a lesson in how much character can be held in a single object. The curve of a handle, the placement of a fastening, the relationship between function and fantasy—each decision carries weight when there’s so little room to work with. That ingenuity made this season especially rewarding to explore, with several strong contenders giving familiar forms a personality of their own.
Chanel, Dior, and Dries Van Noten were among the standouts in our edit of the season’s best runway handbags. Schiaparelli deserves a special mention, too: a personal highlight. Across the selection, certain ideas seem to travel between houses, acquiring a different character along the way. There’s pleasure in noticing those connections for yourself, watching individual objects begin to suggest something about where fashion—and our own desires—might be heading.
