Review of Tod’s “A date with Kate” Spring 2021 Ad Campaign by Tod’s Creative Director Walter Chiapponi with Stylist Margherita Moro
Tod’s unveils a whimsical and stylish Spring 2021 campaign in celebration of their new Kate collection.
The campaign strikes a delicate balance of artistic elevation and everyday life. Its timely narrative follows a group of three friends, all named Kate, who plan to meet up to have a virtual hangout with their other friend – also named Kate. Each woman bubbles with a unique personality as she makes her way through the streets of Rome to their meeting place.
This straightforward narrative is executed with impeccable style. Beautifully decorated interiors or the streets of Rome harmonize nicely with the rich colors of the styling choices. The symmetrical cinematography and irreverent playfulness with which these locations and scenes are captured reminds us a bit of Wes Anderson’s films.
With its whimsical visual world and playful, uplifting narrative, the campaign is an excellent way for Tod’s to introduce their Kate collection to the world – although we can’t help but wish that we could be introduced to this magical world of Kates.
