Victoria’s Secret celebrates the launch of its Icon collection by reuniting with iconic supermodels, as well as bringing new talents into the fold. The campaign was shot by photographer Mikael Jansson.
The campaign stars returning faces from the brand’s heyday, icons Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima, and Candice Swanepoel, but introduces them to an exciting group of younger talent: Adut Akech, Hailey Bieber, Paloma Elsesser, Sui He, and Emily Ratajkowski.
Jansson captures this all-star roster in simple black-and-white studio portraiture, drawing on the energy of classic and minimal 90s editorials to convey the collection’s goal of timelessness and becoming a go-to staple.
The campaign approach is a bit similar to last year’s Skims campaign that saw Kim Kardashian enlist the talents of legendary supermodels of yesteryear, including Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, and Candice Swanepoel. But working with superstar supermodels has always been part of Victoria’s Secret’s MO as well, and they give it a contemporary new energy by mixing in the new generation of models with the old. It’s a very fitting approach for a collection with the title “Icon,” bringing together a diverse range of iconic women.
With the reimagined return of its era-defining fashion show – which will combine a streaming full-length film with live events, a concert tour, and a traveling curatorial exhibition – Victoria’s Secret is entering a new era, and this campaign is a great way to communicate that the brand is back in a big way. Moving forward while paying tribute to the iconic women who made it great, Victoria’s Secret is ready to make a big comeback.
