Grace Wales Bonner’s Coed Collection Inspired by Sea and Sun

Grace Wales Bonner showcased a colorful and sparkling coed collection inspired by water, seaport cities, and tropical flora and fauna designs at a recent event. The collection featured stripes, nautical tones, and silver sequin embellishments that added a watery sparkle to various pieces.

According to the designer, the collection is now 50 percent womenswear, with white fishnet tops, printed dresses, and sharp black tuxedo jackets adding a nautical touch to the lineup. Additionally, the collaboration with the McNish Trust and the artist’s family allowed for vibrant patterns and saturated colors to be incorporated into the designs.

The collection included sporty separates in burgundy, kilt-like skirts, tiny swim trunks in dark tomato red, as well as more formal pieces such as elegant overcoats and tailored jackets and trousers. The tailored pieces complemented the prints well, offering a balance of elegance and vibrancy.

Despite the intricate details and color nuances in the collection, some felt that the venue at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs was too large, distancing the clothes from the guests. The collection was described as sensual and intimate, hinting at a more relaxed and closer gathering outdoors, perhaps overlooking the sea.

Overall, Grace Wales Bonner’s collection captured the essence of the sea and sun, blending vibrant colors with intricate designs to create a unique and striking aesthetic.
