ZIMMERMANN continues its U.S. retail development with the opening of their first Atlanta store, situated in Phipps Plaza.
The Phipps Plaza space marks the brand’s twenty-second U.S. store and is preceded by recent openings in Southampton, Houston, Miami Design District, and Honolulu.
The ZIMMERMANN Phipps Plaza store is 1,827 square feet and was designed by Studio McQualter.
Underpinned by a relaxed luxury, the design approach to the Atlanta store was informed by retail spaces Studio McQualter has designed for ZIMMERMANN previously, with consideration to the context of the greater location. Subtle references to recent stores are found within the generous store layout (Milan), the inclusion of smaller, more intense collection displays (echoing the Southampton store in New York), and the use of large central wardrobes and custom-built mirrors offering multiple perspectives (Madrid), which allows clients to experience the collections in an immersive manner.
This relaxed luxury is further emphasised by store furnishings. A Murano emerald green and ice glass chandelier anchors the space, complemented by tiled table tops, mid-century design lamps, a soft yellow sofa designed for Casa Malaparte in Capri, vintage club chairs with Raoul Tonalo slipcovers, and a custom Kilim stripe floor rug. Together, these bring a cutting edge refinement to the store, a mood extended to the expansive fitting rooms – encompassed by a floral Jim Thompson fabric backdrop, subdued lighting, timber trims, and natural linen double-height curtaining. These are completed by a customised store front that is equally as inviting, with familiar materials like raw render surrounds, green accents, and custom terrazzo bullnose framing.
A sense of warmth and comfort is woven throughout the store by way of finer details; extensive use of timber and brass is key, from the Tramp-Art mirror frame to the Paavo Tynell sconces, vintage brass hangers, multiple parchment shades and an Anders Pehrson table lamp. Contemporary sculptures, paintings, and collages from Australian artists are featured throughout the store, adding another level of sophistication to the retail experience.

It’s such an optimistic, fun, and vibrant city – qualities that are really embraced by the store, which is contemporary and modernist, though balanced with a sense of warmth and an inviting vibe for clients, which I just love. To achieve this, we played with materials, colours, details, lighting and artworks – everything from floral prints to mood lighting to accents of colour. We often include pieces from Australian artists in our store projects, and for Atlanta we have works from Glenn Barkley, James Drinkwater, and Joshua Yeldham showcased in key focal points across the store.”

The ZIMMERMANN Atlanta store is located at Room 1033, Phipps Plaza, and will open with the Spring ’23 collection.
